CAIRO – 29 May 2018: The Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) sector recorded the highest growth rate in Egypt in 2017, reaching 12.5 percent, ICT Minister Yasser Al-Qadi said.

The minister expected the sector to record a growth rate of 14 percent in 2018.

Nabil al Bishbishy, secretary general of the Federation of Administrative Development Associations, said in April that the ICT sector brought in around LE 94.6 billion ($5.34 billion) to Egypt’s treasury in 2016/2017.

Bishbshy added that the exports’ volume of the telecommunication sector recorded $3.2 billion.

The minister said last month that there are two laboratories under construction in the technological area in Sadat City that target to adopt the quality of technological devices.

He clarified that there are incentives to attract international manufacturing companies to invest in Egypt, adding that there are other incentives targeting the investors that state that 80 percent of their capital will be returned to them.

The ICT Ministry said in a report that internet users in Egypt recorded 37 million users, whether via landline phones or mobile phones, in 2017/2018.

ADSL subscribers recorded 5.43 million subscribers by the end of February 2018, compared to 4.37 million subscribers in the same period of 2017.

Internet users via landline phone reached 32 million users, while USB modem users recorded 3.25 million by the end of February 2018.
