CAIRO – 1 March 2018: The Egyptian government has commenced establishing 15 new fourth-generation cities, Prime Minister Sherif Ismail announced in his speech during the inauguration of the new Alamein city and other projects.
Ismail added that the government is working on increasing urban areas in the country, which currently account for six percent, to 12 percent in order to accommodate the population increase.
Ismail also pointed out that the government is accelerating the implementation rates for the drinking water and sanitation project, noting that the new development projects provided a variety of job opportunities.
President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi inaugurated Thursday the first phase of the New El Alamein City.
The first phase will include the inauguration of an eco-city. New El Alamein City also will include a national university, comprising of a number of applied science faculties, an opera house, a library and a museum.
Sisi is also set to inaugurate a number of projects via video conference in the upcoming period.
The city is located on an area of 48,000 feddans (49,824 acres) and is expected to be inhabited by more than 400,000 citizens.
