CAIRO – 23 April 2017: The Food Export Council (FEC) seeks to increase its exports this year by 15 percent to record $3.1 billion from $2.7 billion a year earlier, chairperson of the FEC Hani Berzi said on Saturday.

The total food exports surged 2.5 percent year-on-year in January and February 2017, Berzi added in press statements on the sidelines of the inauguration of the third Food Africa exhibition, held at the Cairo International Convention Center.
The three-day event brings together 450 local and international leading food-manufacturing companies.

Meanwhile, Berzi underscored the importance of the African market, noting that 11 percent of Egypt’s food exports are directed to Africa.

In this regard, the official said the food exports to some Arab countries like Libya, Syria and Yemen have seen a decline over the past period in the wake of the political instability festering in these countries.
