CAIRO – 19 April 2017: Telecom Egypt (TE) and Orange Egypt will sign Wednesday a domestic roaming agreement which will allow the former to use the latter’s infrastructure to provide new mobile services, TE announced in a statement Wednesday.
TE currently lacks the infrastructure needed to provide mobile services so it aims to benefit temporarily from the existent infrastructure of mobile operators.
In September 2016, TE obtained a license to offer 4G mobile services, along with its landline service, in return for EGP 7.08 billion ($389.4 million).
Egypt’s four telecommunication companies, TE, Orange, Vodafone and Etisalat have all acquired 4G licenses but the services are still in the trial period.
Mobile subscribers in Egypt stand at around 98.2 million.
