CAIRO - 9 April 2017: The third annual Maker Faire Cairo was held Saturday at Smart Village on the outskirts of Cairo.

The Faire celebrates innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurial individuals who use technology to make useful and inexpensive products from unused or discarded material, the U.S. Embassy in Egypt said in a Sunday press release.

Around 10,000 people attended the event, sponsored by the U.S. Embassy and hosted by FabLab Egypt.

Talented "Makers" from Egypt and other regional countries were invited to the Faire to display their creations and share their inspiring stories.

Described as “The Greatest Show and Tell on Earth – a showcase of invention and resourcefulness,” the Faire included talks by visiting American experts as well as other international leaders of the Maker movement.

“Over the past three years, we have seen young people from all parts of Egypt gather at Maker Faire Cairo to test and showcase their technological and entrepreneurial ideas,” Minister-Counselor for Public Affairs at U.S. Embassy Cairo Adnan Siddiqi said.

“America started the worldwide Maker Movement, and now Egypt is helping expand it throughout the Middle East, sparking a new generation of creative thinkers,” he added.
