CAIRO – 18 December 2017: The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) said in its recent reports total investments of Egyptian banks in government treasury bills rose to LE 564.349 billion ($31 billion) by the end of October comparing to LE 549.96 billion at the end of September, marking an increase of LE 14.4 billion.
The report added that specialized banks’ investments reached LE12.203 billion by the end of October up from LE 11.14 billion by the end of September. Public banks' investments increased to LE 285.18 billion by the end of October compared to LE 269.94 billion by the end of September.
Branches of Foreign banks' investments increased to LE 22.44 billion in October up from LE 21.53 billion in September, while private sector banks’ investments declined to LE 244.53 billion by the end of October compared to LE 247.36 billion by the end of September.
Existing balances of treasury bills exceeded LE1 billion for the first time to record 1.031 trillion pounds at the end of October compared to LE 994.94 billion at the end of September.
