CAIRO – 6 December 2017: Minister of Planning Hala El-Said witnessed the completion of the third round of European Union-funded administrative reform program.

Having commenced implementation in May 2015, the program was jointly worked on in cooperation between the Ministry of Planning and the Ministry of Local Development, targeting developing government services on both local and central level.

The third phase conducted management development (MD) training for 160 senior and second line managers in the governorates of Ismailia, Menoufia, Minya and Dakahlia.

In total, the MD program certified 450 participants in the period from May 2016 until November 2017, with over 40 percent of female managers.

A number of 24 local trainers have worked on the third round of the program, which has seen participants from directories, heads of districts and their deputies, managers of public services’ centers and managers of related back-office departments.

The Support to Public Administrative Reform and Local Development (PARLOD) has received $4 million following an agreement signed between Egypt and the EU in 2011.

EU assistance to Egypt currently stands at more than €1.3 billion in ongoing grant commitments. Together with EU member states and European financial institutions' grants, loans and debt swaps, this figure amasses a total of €11 billion, making the EU the biggest donor to Egypt.

The new EU-Egypt Single Support Framework 2017-2020 sets out the EU's priorities for bilateral assistance to Egypt under the European Neighborhood Instrument. It foresees between €432 and €528 million for Egypt.
