CAIRO - 4 December 2017: The United Nations said that Egypt received 3-4 million refugees who contribute to Egypt’s economy by $800 million, Head of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) office in Egypt Amr Taha said on Monday.

This came during the screening of a film about Syria at the 2nd immigration international film festival in which it was followed by a discussion about immigration.

Egypt is hosting about 200,000 refugees who are officially registered, he added.

He pointed out that immigration is playing a crucial role in development of Egypt and developing countries. He said that refugees had contributed by $432 billion in the economies of the developing countries in 2015 while the international aid contributed only by $130 billion.
