CAIRO – 27 November 2017: The Hermes Foundation for Social Development (EFG Hermes Foundation) and The Sawiris Foundation for Social Development (SFSD) have signed an agreement to launch a comprehensive project for sustainable development in Naga Al-Foal, Al-Deir village, Esna city in the Luxor governorate.
The EFG Hermes Foundation is an independent, non-profit, non-governmental organization established in 2006, with the aim of assisting people and institutions in overcoming the financial, educational and health-related challenges facing the region.
The SFSD is an Egyptian charity organization linked with the Sawiris Family established in 2001 and a prominent institution of economic and social aid in Egypt.
The signing ceremony was attended by the Minister for Social Solidarity Ghada Wali, Chairperson of Board of Trustees and Management at the EFG Hermes Foundation and a member of the SFSD Mona Zulfkar, Chief Executive Officer at EFG Hermes Karim Awad, Head of CSR at EFG Hermes Hanaa Helmy, Executive Director of SFSD Noura Selim, and SFSD Partnerships Manager Rosa Abdel Malek.
This agreement reflects the vital role that the private sector is playing in the improvement of poor societies and their effort to push development forward in addition to improving human resources, stated the Social Solidarity Minister.
Al-Dier village is suffering high rates of poverty, unemployment, and poor healthcare services. The population of the village is high; therefore the opportunities to make improvements better are few.
The Luxor governor said that the governorates’ officials met with civil institutions to understand the village’s needs and challenges. He added that the new partnership will directly address the real needs of the local residents particularly in sectors of infrastructure, education and developing labor skills.
Head of CSR at EFG Hermes, Hanaa Helmy said her foundation’s focus is to achieve sustainable development, which can be realized by promoting education and infrastructure.
