Luxor to host WCO’s Policy Commission meeting in December

CAIRO – 23 November 2017: Egypt will host the World Customs Organization’s (WCO) Policy commission meeting for the first time next month in Luxor governorate.

The meeting, which will take place from 4-6 December, will be the first to be held in one of the Middle East and North Africa’s (MENA) countries.

Secretary General of the WCO Kunio Mikuriya has welcomed that Egypt will host the meeting for its great history and civilization.

The policy commission holds a meeting twice a year, one in Brussels, where the WCO is headquartered, and another in one of the major countries.

The meetings are attended by 30 countries representing the 186 country members of the WCO.

Head of the Egyptian Customs Authority Magdi Abdel-Aziz said that Luxor has been chosen for its cultural and historical heritage, saying that the meeting will discuss customs and its role in supporting the economy.

It will also discuss facilitating world trade and e-commerce. Abdel-Aziz said that the Ministry of Finance has coordinated with the ministries of foreign affairs and interior to take all the necessary measures to organize and secure this meeting.

It also coordinated with the Luxor governorate to prepare a tourist program to the foreign delegations attending the meeting.

The World Customs Organization (WCO), established in 1952 as the Customs Co-operation Council (CCC) is an independent intergovernmental body whose mission is to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of Customs administrations.
