CAIRO – 13 September 2017: The volume of industrial production hiked 29.2 percent in the fourth quarter of 2016, Egypt’s statistics body said.
Industrial production in this quarter, excluding crude and refined petroleum, hiked 21.1 percent to LE 114.3 billion, from LE 94.8 billion in the third quarter (Q3) of 2016, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
The coke and petroleum products sector made the largest contribution to the Industrial sector, representing 16 percent of the total industrial production volume.
Meanwhile, production of food industries registered LE 25.2 billion in Q4, compared to LE 20 billion in Q3. As for the steel and iron sector, production volume registered LE 10.8 billion in Q4, increasing 16.3 percent compared to the previous quarter in 2016.
For the first nine months of fiscal year 2016/2017, the industrial growth rate increased 4.7 percent, Minister of Planning Hala el-Said previously announced, attributing the increase to improved activities in the food industries, chemical and pharmaceuticals sectors and availability of energy for the industrial sector.
