CAIRO – 7 August 2017: Japan-based construction and civil engineering firm Taisei Corporation submitted financial and technical bid to implement the fourth metro line in Al Haram district of Giza.
The fourth metro line will run 19 kilometers and will include 17 stations, head of the National Authority for Tunnels (NAT) Tarek Gamal El-Din told Egypt Today Monday.
Egypt is still in the process of constructing the third metro line, which is set to be completed by 2020, and has not yet begun construction of the fourth and fifth lines
In July, Minister of Transport Hisham Arafat signed the memorandum of understanding (MOU) of the sixth metro line that will be designed by a Canadian company.
Arafat said at that time that the sixth metro line will cost $US 3.5 billion and will be constructed in parallel with the first metro line to ease heavy traffic.
Due to suffering losses, Egypt will increase the Cairo Metro ticket prices by up to 100 percent in 2018, according to Arafat.
