CAIRO – 6 February 2025: Egypt welcomed approximately 8.7 million tourists in the first half of FY2024/2025, according to official government data.
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly reviewed a report from Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy, which highlighted record-breaking tourism figures throughout 2024.
The report revealed that 15.78 million international tourists visited Egypt over the year, marking the highest number ever recorded.
If this trend continues at an average of 1.4 million visitors per month, Egypt is projected to reach 17 million tourists by the end of the fiscal year.
Germany, Russia, and Saudi Arabia were the top three countries contributing to inbound tourism, both throughout 2024 and during the first half of FY2024/2025.
In December 2024, Egypt’s hotel occupancy rate averaged 69 percent, reflecting a 25 percent increase compared to December 2023.
Major tourist destinations such as Sharm El-Sheikh, Greater Cairo, South Sinai, and Hurghada saw occupancy rates exceed 75 percent.
Recognizing the sector’s potential, the minister highlighted investment opportunities in Egypt’s hotel industry, with the government offering incentives and financial initiatives to attract investors and further strengthen tourism infrastructure.
Prime Minister Madbouly reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting tourism, emphasizing its crucial role in Egypt’s economy.
He also reiterated Egypt’s long-term goal of attracting 30 million tourists annually, with continuous efforts to enhance tourism services and infrastructure.
