CAIRO – 1 January 2025:  The Cabinet has endorsed a draft presidential decree for a grant agreement with Japan valued at 500 million Japanese yen.

This grant focuses on strengthening Egyptian-Japanese ties by implementing a digital agricultural transformation program.

The initiative includes leasing and monitoring agricultural machinery using GPS-based remote control systems.

Aligned with Egypt’s digital transformation and e-governance strategy, the program aims to enhance the livelihoods of low-income and underserved farmers by providing access to affordable agricultural technology, reducing operational costs, and boosting agricultural production and land cultivation.

Targeted governorates for this program include Dakahlia, Gharbia, and Beheira.

Additionally, the Cabinet approved another decree concerning a financing agreement with Japan worth 35 billion Japanese yen.

This program seeks to foster private sector growth by improving the business environment, promoting competition, and supporting economic diversification and green initiatives.

The Cabinet also endorsed a draft decree on a free trade agreement between Egypt and Serbia. Initially announced during President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's visit to Serbia in July 2022, the agreement was formalized in June 2023 during the Serbian President's visit to Egypt.

The agreement aims to enhance trade, industrial, and investment cooperation between the two countries, paving the way for expanded economic and trade opportunities based on their mutual strengths.
