CAIRO – 29 December 2024: In a meeting with the Planning and Budget Committee of the House of Representatives, Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, Rania Al-Mashat, reviewed the progress of the National Project for Egyptian Family Development as part of the FY2023/2024 economic and social development plan.
Dr. Al-Mashat emphasized how the integration of the Ministry of Planning with Economic Development and International Cooperation has bolstered the national implementation of the project, leveraging strong international partnerships.
These collaborations have been instrumental in advancing the initiative, which has secured LE 2 billion in funding. Key partners include the Ministry of Health and Population, the Ministry of Social Solidarity, and the National Council for Women.
By October 2024, the project had benefited approximately 28 million citizens, with women making up 90 percent of the beneficiaries. Notably, 66 percent of participants engaged in cultural and awareness interventions, while 31.5 percent were supported through economic empowerment programs.
The project has achieved several milestones, including the pilot launch of 10 Family Development Centers, with three additional centers completed out of the targeted 52.
These centers offer vital services such as family health, child care, and maternal care. Additionally, 1,641 nursery classrooms were established or upgraded, exceeding the initial goal of 1,000 classrooms.
Focusing on women’s economic empowerment, the initiative introduced extensive training in financial literacy, inclusion, and entrepreneurship.
It also created production workshops and units, delivering approximately 24,000 economic empowerment projects. These efforts have generated employment opportunities through micro-enterprises, family production initiatives, and vocational training centers, significantly contributing to sustainable development in Egypt.
