Cairo – 23 December 2024: Egypt’s car imports dropped significantly to $163.755 million in September 2024, a decline of $55.099 million compared to $218.854 million in the same month last year, according to data from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
Despite this drop, passenger car imports witnessed a notable increase earlier in the year. Between January and August 2024, total passenger car imports surged to $1.692 billion, compared to $1.155 billion during the same period in 2023, marking an increase of $536.623 million.
Car imports have shown inconsistent patterns throughout 2024. In August, for instance, imports fell sharply to $156.088 million, down from $217.638 million in the same month in 2023, a decrease of $61.550 million.
In terms of Egypt’s overall trade performance, CAPMAS reported that the country’s trade balance deficit widened to $4.40 billion in September 2024, compared to $3.58 billion in the same month of 2023, reflecting a 22.8% increase.
Exports rose by 10.2%, reaching $3.46 billion in September 2024, while imports grew by 16.9%, amounting to $7.86 billion compared to $6.72 billion in September 2023.
