CAIRO - 18 December 2024: In a recent press conference attended by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Deputy Prime Minister for Human Development and Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, highlighted significant advancements in Egypt’s healthcare sector.

He announced that the sector's budget has increased four-fold over the past decade, reaching a total of EGP 1 trillion by 2024.

Abdel Ghaffar underscored the transformative role of the comprehensive health insurance system, which he described as the foundation of Egypt's healthcare future. Currently, the system provides coverage for around 70 million citizens.

The project’s first phase required investments of EGP 51 billion, while EGP 115 billion has been allocated for the second phase, set to expand its reach and services.

The Minister also addressed the ongoing drug shortage crisis, assuring the public that it would be fully resolved soon.

He noted that Egypt already produces 90% of its pharmaceutical needs and is working to further expand production capabilities to enhance self-sufficiency.

These initiatives reflect Egypt’s commitment to creating a robust and accessible healthcare system. With comprehensive health insurance and increased pharmaceutical production, the country is making significant strides toward providing sustainable, high-quality healthcare for its citizens.
