Egypt is enhancing its LNG infrastructure with the addition of a second floating regasification unit at Ain Sokhna, under a new agreement between New Fortress Energy and the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS). Expected to begin operations in the second half of 2025, the unit is believed to be the Energos Eskimo, currently stationed at Jordan’s Aqaba Port. Details on the lease’s cost and duration remain undisclosed.

In parallel, Egypt and Jordan have inked a deal ensuring Jordan's continued use of Egypt’s LNG facilities over the next two years. This agreement will help Jordan process shipments until its fixed Aqaba terminal is completed in 2026.

The new regasification unit will complement an existing Norwegian unit in Ain Sokhna, adding a gasification capacity of 750 mn cf/d and 160k cbm of storage. This expansion is designed to address growing domestic gas demand during peak periods.

The move follows reports of delays in LNG deliveries due to limited regasification capacity. Egypt has postponed some shipments from late 2024 to early 2025, citing sufficient domestic supply and ongoing supplier negotiations.
