Egypt’s Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, Kamel El-Wazir, inaugurated the Egyptian-Italian “Ro-Ro” shipping line during a visit to Italy.

The line, connecting Damietta Port to Trieste, marks a significant milestone in trade relations, reducing shipping times for goods to just 2.5 days compared to six days via traditional routes.

The initiative is expected to boost Egyptian exports, particularly agricultural products, to European markets. It also aligns with Egypt’s vision of becoming a regional logistics hub, enhancing trade efficiency while creating over 2,000 jobs in logistics and transportation sectors.

El-Wazir also met with Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini to explore collaboration opportunities in rail projects, including high-speed rail management and rail line upgrades. The discussions aim to leverage Italian expertise to modernize Egypt’s infrastructure.

In a separate meeting with Italian steel manufacturer Danieli, plans were announced for a new plant in Egypt to produce seamless pipes, signaling growing Italian investments in Egypt’s industrial sector.

Salvini praised Egypt’s development efforts and announced his intention to visit in early 2025 to advance joint projects, highlighting the robust and expanding partnership between the two nations.
