CAIRO - 25 November 2024: The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum is keen to enhance safety in the petroleum industry as a prioritu to reduce risks, said Geologist Alaa El Batal, First Undersecretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and Supervisor of Occupational Safety and Health, Energy Efficiency and Climate. 
 
He further added that the move is aimed at preserving workers and resources, carrying out safe operations, and establishing and spreading a culture of safety among all those working in this industry, as well as raising awareness of the importance of strictly applying safety rules.
 
El Batal pointed out that achieving the highest rates of occupational safety and health is positively reflected in increasing production.
 
He also noted the establishment of the first school for safety and risk management in the Ain Sokhna region in cooperation with BP and Bechtel; the two global companies, as a pioneering experience that will provide graduates at the highest level in the safety maintenance system. 
 
He further added that they seek to repeat the experience of establishing a school for safety and risk management in a number of petroleum geographic sites across Egypt, similar to the Ain Sokhna School.
 
Geologist Alaa El Batal added, during a conference attended by leaders of the petroleum sector, that integration between companies is an important element in achieving operational safety, pointing to the ongoing cooperation with Methanex to support the sector with operational safety technology according to international standards.
