CAIRO - 20 November 2024: Al Dahra Egypt, a subsidiary of the UAE-based Al Dahra Agricultural Company, is negotiating with the Egyptian government to secure 80,000 acres in Toshka, East Oweinat, and El-Salhiya by 2025.
The acquisition, potentially through ownership or usufruct rights, involves a projected investment of $200 million, according to CEO Raouf Tawfik in an interview with Asharq Bloomberg.
The company also plans to invest LE 400 million to reclaim 2,000 acres from its current holdings in Egypt over the next two years. Since 2007, Al Dahra has operated in Egypt, managing three key agricultural projects spanning 67,000 acres across Toshka, East Oweinat, and El-Salhiya.
Tawfik noted that Al Dahra has been profitable in Egypt since 2021 and aims to achieve $62 million in sales this year, with plans to grow this figure to $67 million by 2025.
Egypt’s agricultural sector continues to play a critical role in the national economy. During Cairo ICT, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk highlighted the sector’s contribution of over 15 percent to the GDP, its employment of more than 25 percent of the workforce, and its $9.2 billion in export revenues in 2023.
Fresh agricultural exports accounted for 6.9 million tons, valued at $4.1 billion, while processed products added $5.1 billion, underscoring the sector’s strategic importance.
