Mohamed Shamroukh, CEO of the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA), revealed that the authority has given initial approval for increasing telecommunications service prices in Egypt.
During the 5G session at the Cairo ICT 2024 exhibition, Shamroukh announced that the NTRA has authorized the four mobile operators to raise prices for voice and internet services.
The updated pricing plans are expected to be unveiled soon.
Shamroukh attributed the proposed price hike to the escalating operational costs faced by telecom providers.
He emphasized that the NTRA is carefully assessing the optimal timing for implementing the new rates, ensuring consumer interests remain a priority.
Earlier in October, Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, disclosed that the NTRA had signed agreements with Egypt's telecom operators to grant them 5G licenses.
These agreements, valued at $675 million, include Vodafone Egypt, Orange, and e& Egypt, under the same terms as the earlier license issued to We.
