CAIRO - 18 November 2024: Egypt's imports of passenger cars have declined recently, according to data from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS), as the value of car imports amounted to about $156 million and 88 thousand in August 2024, while it was about $217 million and 638 thousand in August 2023; recording a decrease of $61 million and 550 thousand.

The agency's data shows that the decline in Egyptian imports of cars contributed to the decline in total Egyptian imports of durable consumer goods during the mentioned period, as Egypt's total imports of consumer goods amounted to about $250 million and 882 thousand in August 2024, compared to $324 million and 661 thousand in the same month of last year 2023; a decrease of about $73 million and 779 thousand.

The value of Egyptian imports increased by 7.6 percent, reaching about $8.34 billion during last August, compared to $7.75 billion during the same month of the previous year. This is due to the increase in the value of imports of some goods, most notably petroleum products by 81.2 percent, followed by natural gas imports by 234.7 percent, then wheat imports by 26.5 percent, and raw materials of iron or steel by 25.8 percent. On the other hand, the value of imports of some goods decreased during last August, compared to their counterparts in the same month of the previous year, most notably corn, which increased by 17.8 percent, then refined oils by 18 percent, and wood and its products by 10.1 percent.
