CAIRO - 14 November 2024: The Egyptian Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) released its Labor Force Survey results for the third quarter (July-September) of 2024, revealing that the unemployment rate in Egypt increased to 6.7 percent, up by 0.2 percent from the previous quarter.
According to the data, the labor force size reached 32.218 million, a 2.5 percent increase from the prior quarter’s 31.423 million. The urban labor force totaled 14.19 million, while the rural labor force reached 18.028 million. Among genders, men comprised 26.432 million of the labor force, and women 5.786 million.
This increase is attributed to a rise in employment by 694,000 and an uptick in unemployment by 101,000, pushing the total labor force up by 795,000.
The total number of unemployed individuals stands at 2.159 million, accounting for 6.7 percent of the labor force. This includes 1.106 million men and 1.053 million women, reflecting a 4.9 percent increase from the previous quarter.
Unemployment rates by gender and location show that male unemployment remained stable at 4.2 percent in both the current and previous quarters, while female unemployment rose slightly to 18.2 percent from 17.3 percent.
