CAIRO - 11 November 2024: Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim underscored the strong historical and strategic relationship between Egypt and Malaysia during a roundtable meeting in Cairo. He emphasized Malaysia's commitment to deepening bilateral ties, particularly in sectors such as trade, industry, investment, education, and tourism. Ibrahim noted that Egypt offers a highly attractive investment environment and highlighted ongoing efforts by the Egyptian government to facilitate business and investment.
The prime minister pointed out that Egypt, as a major power in both the Arab world and Africa, presents significant investment opportunities. He mentioned that Malaysia is actively exploring new sectors for cooperation, such as digital transformation, energy, and semiconductor manufacturing.
Egypt's Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, Hassan Al-Khateeb, echoed Ibrahim's sentiments, calling the visit an invaluable opportunity to further strengthen economic and industrial collaboration. Al-Khateeb stressed Egypt’s efforts to create a conducive investment climate, supported by substantial government reforms in areas like finance, taxation, and trade policies.
Minister Al-Khateeb also outlined Egypt’s ambition to become a regional hub for exports, especially as a gateway for Malaysian businesses to access African markets. He highlighted the country’s strategic advantages, including its skilled workforce, competitive wages, and free trade agreements with various countries.
On the sidelines of the roundtable, Al-Khateeb met with his Malaysian counterpart, Tengku Zafrul Aziz, to discuss ways to attract more Malaysian investments and expand the scope of existing projects. Both parties also explored collaboration in semiconductor manufacturing and agreed to activate the Egyptian-Malaysian Joint Committee in the coming year to drive further economic integration.
