CAIRO - 11 November 2024: Nile Recycling Company and the industrial developer Main Development Company (MDC) have formalized an agreement to recycle Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) within the integrated industrial zone in Sokhna, part of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone).
The project, set to occupy 12,000 square meters, is backed by an initial investment of $20 million and will create 500 job opportunities.
The signing ceremony took place in the presence of Walid Gamal El-Din, Chairman of the SCZone.
Production is projected to start in the first half of 2025, with a targeted recycling capacity of 22,000 tons per year, contributing to a reduction in carbon emissions by 40,000 tons annually.
The recycled PET will be used in the production of packaging materials, including plastic bottles and food containers, with plans for export.
Walid Gamal El-Din emphasized that the SCZone has made substantial progress in advancing towards a green economy. He also noted the wide range of investment opportunities in the green fuel sector and related industries, including products manufactured using green fuel and the supply of green fuel for ships.
The Nile Recycling project is in line with the Authority’s strategic commitment to promoting sustainability and supporting the green economy through recycling efforts.
