Cairo – November 4, 2024: During a press conference today, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly stated, “Egypt has one of the most significant experiences in developing and improving unsafe areas worldwide.”
The PM held a press conference today to announce the opening of the 12th edition of the World Urban Forum.
Madbouly clarified that the forum is usually held in smaller cities, noting the organization’s concerns that holding such an event in a capital city would create challenges and pressure on movement within those cities.
He noted that a key challenge was ensuring smooth movement to and from the forum within Cairo and the New Administrative Capital, expressing confidence that, thanks to significant efforts in Cairo and across all Egyptian governorates in urban transport and infrastructure projects, this forum would become a remarkable success story.
“This event, in terms of size and importance, is the second largest organized by the UN after the climate conference, which Egypt had the honor of hosting in Sharm El Sheikh,” he added.
Choosing Cairo as the host city presented unique challenges, particularly in ensuring movement to and from the forum within the Egyptian capital, which is home to 22 million residents, he explained.
Madbouly also highlighted the logistical efforts made to facilitate smooth operations during the forum, which has registered over 37,000 participants, including 72 ministers and 96 governors and mayors.
The PM emphasized the importance of enabling forum participants to benefit not only from the rich, interactive seminars but also from opportunities to visit real projects, allowing them to witness firsthand the translation of principles and strategies for urban development.
His remarks were made in the presence of several officials, including Ana Claudia Robles, the UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of the UN Habitat Program, along with various ministers and local dignitaries.
Madbouly expressed optimism that the forum would yield significant outcomes and recommendations, fostering a transformative impact on urban development amidst the global challenges currently facing the world.
