CAIRO - 3 November 2024: Egypt is a leading country and one of the largest and most influential economies in North Africa and the Arab League, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told BRICS TV network.

Egypt, UAE, and Saudi Arabia officially joined BRICS at the beginning of 2024. For their parts, UAE is one of the leading logistics and trade centers in the modern global economy, and Saudi Arabia enjoys so much importance, Lavrov said.

The three countries are respected in the world, which enhances the status and popularity of the BRICS group, he added.

The Russian diplomat said there are a number of countries that have expressed their desire to become full members of the BRICS group.

This will be considered in 2025, after agreeing on the criteria for forming the category of "partner countries.”

The Russian presidency has extended invitations to some countries that requested to join after the Kazan Summit, as there are more than ten such countries that enjoy consensus among the current BRICS members.

Lavrov noted that the BRICS countries have already developed recommendations on mechanisms for alternative payment methods in relation to currency.

Recommendations have already been developed at meetings held throughout the year between finance ministers and heads of central banks of BRICS members, but they are not final.

The payment system was on the agenda of the summit in Kazan, but it is necessary to start creating reliable, sustainable and long-term systems before applying the recommendations.

Lavrov said he is confident that Brazil, as the next president of BRICS, will continue working in this issue.
