CAIRO – 31 October 2024: Japanese automotive wiring manufacturer Sumitomo Electric is set to launch operations at its new plant in 10th of Ramadan City this November, backed by €22 million in investments.
This announcement followed a recent meeting between Egypt’s Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, Hassan El-Khatib, Sumitomo Electric Egypt's Managing Director, Mirsha Serbo, and Deputy Managing Director, Mohamed Hammam.
Minister El-Khatib confirmed the plant’s grand opening is scheduled for the first quarter of 2025.
The new facility, occupying 150,000 square meters, is anticipated to create approximately 3,000 direct job opportunities, solidifying Egypt's position as a global hub for automotive wiring harness manufacturing.
Laid in 2023, the factory’s foundation marked a major milestone in Sumitomo’s expansion in Egypt, which includes other facilities in Port Said and 6th of October City.
The new plant plans to export 100 percent of its production, aligning with Egypt’s strategic goals to localize industry, reduce imports, and elevate exports, targeting an ambitious $146 billion by 2030.
Additionally, Serbo announced that Sumitomo Electric Egypt intends to invest another €8 million in the coming year, underscoring the company’s commitment to the region’s industrial growth.
