Cairo – October 30, 2024: Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Sherif Farouk highlighted Egypt's dedication to sustainable food security through a range of policies. These initiatives include diversifying import sources, increasing strategic reserves, enhancing market oversight to prevent monopolies on essential goods, and developing integrated strategies to improve production efficiency and minimize waste.

During his keynote address at the regional forum titled "Accelerating Food System Transformation in the Arab Region" in Amman, Farouk also emphasized the importance of enhancing internal trade.

He noted that this focus aims to improve market efficiency, reduce trading intermediaries, and foster collaboration with the private sector to strengthen the food supply chain.

Addressing regional challenges, he pointed out the growing economic, political, and environmental threats facing the Arab region, which necessitate enhanced efforts to reform food systems.

He also discussed the impact of these challenges on supply chains and the availability of essential goods at reasonable prices and high quality.

Farouk elaborated on the importance of strengthening supply chains to ensure fair and sustainable food access and activating the role of the commodities exchange, enabling private sector participation to stabilize prices and improve food quality.

The supply minister stressed Egypt's long-standing commitment to expanding social protection networks, emphasizing the importance of continually evolving the government’s food support system to better target vulnerable populations and improve efficiency by providing a wider range of food options.
