CAIRO – 30 October 2024: Egypt’s Cabinet has greenlit a proposal from the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade to establish a private free zone at the Sidi Kerir Petrochemicals Complex in Alexandria.

The Draschem for Specialized Chemicals project will cover 157,000 square meters, focusing on the production of specialized chemicals, with an investment of approximately $158.6 million and the creation of around 500 jobs.

The project aims to develop a high-impact investment in the chemical sector, signaling strong confidence in Egypt’s vibrant economy, favorable investment climate, and readily available raw materials.

Designed with a 100 percent local production component and a full export orientation, the project expects an initial annual output between 50,000 and 55,000 cubic meters, with a plan to double capacity in its second phase.

Strategically positioned in Egypt, with skilled labor and access to multiple regional and international trade agreements, the project is set to enhance Egypt’s status as a hub for specialized manufacturing.

The facility will produce sodium cyanide and derivatives, marking Egypt as the first in the MENA region to localize this advanced technology. Additionally, the project supports Egypt’s growing mining industry by offering strategic and technical incentives to enhance industry activities.
