Egypt's international cooperation portfolio for human development reaches $7B

CAIRO – 21 October 2024: Egypt has allocated LE 118 billion from the national budget towards the human development sector in the fiscal year 2024/2025, as announced by Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, Rania Al-Mashat.
 
She shared these details during a roundtable focused on population and human capital development in Egypt.
 
The international cooperation portfolio supporting this sector stands at approximately $7 billion, comprising concessional financing, technical support, grants, and debt swaps. Al-Mashat highlighted the success of the Takaful and Karama program, funded by the World Bank with $1.4 billion in soft financing.
 
The program has been running for nine years and has benefited 20 million Egyptian citizens through cash support.
 
Al-Mashat also discussed the comprehensive health insurance program, supported by development partners such as the World Bank, Japan, and the French Development Agency, aimed at enhancing the quality of healthcare services in Egypt. This program has reached 6 million beneficiaries nationwide.
 
Additionally, she noted that 42 percent of government investments are directed toward human and social development. The health and education sectors have experienced a growth rate of 5.6% in the last fiscal year.
