CAIRO - 14 October 2024: Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, received at the ministry's headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, the Greek Minister of Environment and Energy Theodoros Skylakakis, and his accompanying delegation. 
 
A meeting was held to discuss ways to support and enhance partnership and cooperation between both countries in the fields of electricity, renewable energy, green hydrogen, technological innovation, transfer of expertise, and maximizing the project's returns in the fields of industry, development, and sustainability.
 
The meeting discussed the latest developments in the implementation of the interconnection line project between the electricity networks in Egypt and Greece and the importance of the project as part of the European-African interconnection project, which aims to enhance energy security and exchange clean electricity between the two continents. 
 
All these aspects were discussed within the framework of the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy's vision to diversify energy sources and the energy mix strategy and rely on new and renewable energies and available investment opportunities in this field and support and assist the private sector to establish clean energy projects within the framework of the general policy of reducing fuel consumption and reducing carbon emissions.
 
The meeting also discussed joint frameworks to accelerate the implementation of the project, including technical, financial and regulatory aspects, cooperation in the field of technological innovation and transfer of expertise, especially in the field of energy storage and integration of renewable energy sources in electricity networks.
 
For his part, the Greek Minister expressed his country's appreciation for Egypt's efforts in strengthening the renewable energy sector, and stressed that the electrical interconnection with Egypt is an important strategic project for Greece and Europe, as it contributes to securing clean and sustainable energy sources, in addition to supporting the European Union's goals to reach carbon neutrality by 2050.
 
At the end of the meeting, the two ministers expressed their commitment to continue joint efforts to implement the project as soon as possible, and support it to become a model for regional cooperation in the field of energy.
