CAIRO - 8 October 2024: Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Eng. Karim Badawi witnessed the signing of a grant agreement from the German government amounting to 30 million euros between the Egypt Green Hydrogen Project
This came during his participation in the Hamburg Sustainability Conference in the German city of Hamburg.
The signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, and Svenja Schulz, German Minister of Development and Economic Cooperation Tuesday.
The Egypt Green Hydrogen Project is being developed by the Norwegian company Scatec in cooperation with Fertiglobe, Orascom Construction, the Egyptian Sovereign Fund, the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company, and Power2X D&G GmbH, a subsidiary of the German Development Bank.
Eng. Karim Badawi delivered a speech during the signing ceremony, in which he referred to Egypt’s potential to become a global leader in the field of renewable energy and green hydrogen production.
He stressed that signing the grant agreement and enhancing cooperation with Egypt’s partners, especially in the energy sector, "is an essential step to support green hydrogen and ammonia projects in the country."
He also referred to the Egyptian state’s interest and the government’s commitment to effective coordination and cooperation between different sectors to achieve Egypt’s vision of becoming a regional hub for green hydrogen.
