CAIRO - 29 September 2024: Converting subsidies from in-kind to cash would increase beneficiaries by 200%, according to the Egyptian Center for Thought and Strategic Studies.

Allocations for the cash support program "Takaful and Karama" to L.E.240 billion, with a total number of beneficiaries of about 27 million citizens in 2024-2030.

Allocations for the support program of people with special needs will increase to L.E.70 billion. Beneficiaries will also increase to 3 million citizens in 2024-2030 compared to about 1.2 million citizens in 2014-2023.

Additionally, the elimination of in-kind subsidies will prevent the trafficking of goods, or the sale of commodities that have not been taken by the people in the subsidies program. The reform is intended to ensure that subsidies are delivered to people who most need it.
