CAIRO - 16 September 2024: Egypt saw a surge in wheat imports, with the total volume reaching $2.3 billion in the first half of 2024, marking a $539.3 million increase from the same period in 2023.
These imports contributed to Egypt's overall rise in raw material imports, which amounted to about $5.6 billion in H1 2024, up from $5.2 billion in H1 2023, a growth of $397.1 million.
In contrast, June witnessed a decrease in wheat imports to $261 million, a 21.5 percent drop from June 2023's $332 million.
The trade deficit also shrank, reaching $2.87 billion in June 2024 compared to $3.02 billion in June 2023, a decline of 5.1 percent.
Moreover, exports dipped by 1.6 percent to $3.13 billion in June 2024 from $3.18 billion in June 2023, while imports fell by 3.3 percent to $6.0 billion in June 2024 from $6.21 billion in the same month the previous year.
