Egypt's annual Inflation rate stands at 25.6% in August: CAPMAS

CAIRO - 10 September 2024: In August 2024, the general consumer price index surged to 231.1 points, marking a monthly inflation rate of 1.9 percent, as per the latest data unveiled by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
 
The upsurge was primarily steered by a 14.3 percent spike in the vegetable group, a 14.9 percent rise in transportation services, a 6.0 percent increase in postal services, a 2.8 percent climb in household appliances, a 2.1 percent uptick in dairy, cheese, and eggs, a 2.8 percent elevation in hospital services, along with a 1.4 percent boost in the fish and seafood group and a 0.9 percent rise in the fruit group.
 
Conversely, prices dipped in the tobacco group by -0.1 percent, cereals and bread by -1.3 percent, meat and poultry by -1.5 percent, oils and fats by -0.9 percent, and sugar by -0.1 percent.
 
The annual inflation rate stood at 25.6 percent in August 2024, a decrease from 39.7 percent recorded in the same month the prior year.
 
Monthly alterations in August 2024 in comparison to July 2024 depicted a 1.8 percent upturn in the Food and Beverages section, a 1.1 percent rise in the clothing and footwear department, and a 0.7 percent increase in the housing, water, electricity, gas, and fuel category. 
 
Additionally, the Furniture, Fixtures, Home Equipment, and Maintenance segment saw a 1.7 percent increase, while the health care department observed a 3.4 percent elevation.
 
Analyzing changes on an annual basis for August 2024 versus August 2023, the food and beverage section escalated by 28.1 percent, clothing and footwear by 25.4 percent, and health care by 25.6 percent.
 
 Furthermore, the housing, water, electricity, gas, and fuel section experienced a 12.5 percent increase, and the Furniture, Fixtures, Home Equipment, and Maintenance category saw a 26.0 percent rise.
