UK's investments in Egypt reach $21.5B by June 2024: Investment Minister

CAIRO – 9 September 2024: In 2023, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, Hassan El-Khatib, disclosed that the trade volume between Egypt and the United Kingdom (UK) hit approximately GBP 2.8 billion. This revelation came during his meeting with John Humphrey, the British Commissioner for Trade with Africa, aimed at bolstering trade and investment ties between the two nations in the upcoming period.
 
El-Khatib further highlighted that British investments in various sectors, including petroleum, financial services, communications, and industry, had amassed to $21.5 billion by June 2024.
 
Additionally, Minister El-Khatib is set to journey to the UK this month to update British business stakeholders on recent economic reforms and unveil investment opportunities for potential British investors. The focus will be on sectors like green technology, the digital economy, renewable energy, and logistics.
 
Humphrey stressed the keen interest of the new British government in strengthening investment and trade relations with Egypt, underscoring the notable opportunities awaiting British enterprises in the Egyptian market, serving as a gateway to African markets.
 
The meeting also featured a presentation on investment opportunities and sectors open to British companies in Egypt, alongside the incentives extended by the Egyptian government to attract investors.
