CAIRO – 25 August 2024: The index, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, inched up from 108.27 in May to 108.35 in June, marking a 0.07 percent increase, according to the latest data released by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
A surge was observed in the ready-made clothing industry, with the index soaring from 178.30 in May to 205.26 in June, reflecting a 15.12 percent growth tailored to meet market demands.
The beverage industry also experienced an upturn, with its index climbing from 583.43 in May to 654.08 in June, indicating a 12.11 percent increase.
Conversely, the furniture industry witnessed a downturn, as its index declined from 163.14 in May to 135.37 in June, showcasing a marked decrease of 17.02 percent attributed to shortages in essential raw materials.
Similarly, the index for the manufacture of paper and its products saw a dip from 68.18 in May to 58.42 in June, reflecting a decrease of 14.32 percent.
It is noteworthy that the agency implemented a methodological update in January 2020, adopting the base year 2012/2013 and aligning the industrial activity indices with the International Standard Industrial Classification (ISIC Rev.4). This revision has provided a more standardized and comprehensive framework for analyzing industrial trends.
