CAIRO – 14 August 2024: Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation Rania A. Al-Mashat met Tuesday with Ambassador Christian Berger, head of the European Union Delegation to Egypt, to discuss key areas of cooperation in the upcoming period, progress rate of the Macro-Financial Assistance (MFA), and affiliated structural reforms.

The meeting is the first since the merger of the ministries of planning and international cooperation.

Minister Mashat underscored that the focus would be on continuing the economic reform path, with emphasis on healthcare, education, and industrial development. Steps include the governance of public investments, monitoring the implementation of the investment plan across governorates, as well as coordinating and achieving integration among ministries and state institutions.

The aim is the enhancement of inclusive growth, achievement of economic development goals, and stabilization of the macroeconomy, and accomplishment of comprehensive and sustainable development.

The first tranche of the MFA, which was signed with the European Union during the Egyptian-European Investment Conference in June, has been designed to enhance private sector participation in development, promote the transition to a green economy, and support macroeconomic stability.

In the past years, under the Team Europe initiative, investments and financing amounting to $12.8 billion have been pumped into the public and private sectors from European countries and institutions.
