CAIRO - 1 August 2024: The Egyptian Petrochemicals Holding Company (ECHEM), Sidi Kerir Petrochemicals Company (SIDPEC), Egyptian Natural Gas Company (GASCO), and Gama Construction Company have come together to establish the Alexandria Supply Chain Company, with a substantial investment of $660 million.
This initiative, as announced by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, aims to create a permanent marine facilities station at Dekheila Port in Alexandria Governorate. The primary goal is to meet the present and future raw material requirements of petrochemical companies located in Alexandria.
Furthermore, this endeavor will cater to the needs of upcoming projects under consideration within the national plan for the petrochemical industry.
The agreement was formalized in the presence of Minister Karim Badwi, emphasizing that the project will be exclusively financed by national capital through a collaboration among various entities in the petroleum sector.
Ibrahim Mokhtar, the head of ECHEM, outlined the project details, which include two sea berths, each 400 meters long and 20 meters deep, alongside a land extension of 400,000 square meters for storage facilities, processing units, and associated services.
These developments will significantly enhance Egypt's capacity to receive, store, and process liquefied ethane gas, with the station capable of hosting large carriers up to 300,000 tons, and operating at a turnover rate of up to 5 million tons annually.
This strategic move not only leverages the ongoing infrastructure upgrades in Egyptian ports since 2019 but also positions Egypt as a pivotal global hub for trade and logistics.
