CAIRO - 24 July 2024: Egypt is initiating a tender for the procurement of five consignments of liquefied gas in the upcoming months of August and September, as per a government representative communicating with Asharq Bloomberg.
The official has affirmed that Egypt will recurrently release bids for gas imports until local production rebounds.
In July, Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly, disclosed that Egypt's daily energy usage has surpassed 37 gigawatts, marking a 12 percent surge from the previous year, resulting in a 4 gigawatt shortfall.
Madbouly has outlined plans to expedite renewable energy initiatives to mitigate this gap and curtail energy imports.
Moreover, the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has announced the imminent receipt of two liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipments at the Port of Sokhna. Each of these shipments, totaling around 145,000 tonnes, is anticipated to arrive within the next 10 days, as per a government source speaking to Al Arabiya Business.
In a parallel effort, Egypt launched a global tender in July for the importation of roughly 740,000 tons of petroleum products scheduled for August. The sourced materials encompass 400,000 tons of diesel, 170,000 tons of gasoline, and 170,000 tons of butane.
