CAIRO – 17 July 2024: The AMEA Power, an Emirati company, has received approval from the Egyptian Cabinet to undertake additional renewable energy projects before the summer of 2025. These projects aim to boost the country's renewable energy capacity.
One of the approved projects involves expanding the Abydos Solar Energy project, which is currently in progress with a capacity of 500 megawatts. Upon completion, an additional 500 megawatts of solar power capacity will be added.
In addition to solar power, the projects also include the installation of 1,500 megawatts of combined solar and wind power capacity. Once completed, these renewable energy sources will be integrated into the national electricity grid. The Solar Energy Project will contribute 1,000 megawatts to this capacity.
Notably, the ongoing Amount Wind Energy Project, with a capacity of 500 megawatts, is part of these initiatives. Moreover, the projects will incorporate a battery storage system to enhance energy storage capabilities.
Collectively, the projects undertaken by AMEA Power before the summer of 2025 will add a total of 2,000 megawatts to the country's renewable energy capacity, including the battery storage system.
Earlier in July, Egypt's Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly, held a meeting with Sultan Al Jaber, the UAE's Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss collaborative efforts between Egypt and the UAE in the field of new and renewable energy. The focus was on promoting the localization of related industries.
Prime Minister Madbouly emphasized the significance of the meeting, highlighting the ongoing commitment of both countries to address matters related to new and renewable energy. Additionally, the meeting aimed to foster the localization of various industries in this sector.
