CAIRO – 16 July 2024: The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources is set to receive two shipments of liquefied natural gas (LNG) at the Port of Sokhna.
Each shipment will have a substantial capacity of approximately 145,000 tonnes. These crucial deliveries are scheduled to reach their destination within the next 10 days.
These upcoming LNG shipments serve as a notable addition to the existing stock of LNG already received by the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS).
EGAS has successfully processed and integrated a substantial total of around 213,000 tonnes of LNG into the national gas network.
During July 2024, EGAS notably received two LNG shipments, combining to an impressive capacity of 143,000 tonnes.
Additionally, another shipment of 70,000 tonnes was successfully transported on the Hoegh Galleon vessel, which the Egyptian government had specifically contracted for LNG imports. With the inclusion of these new shipments, the cumulative amount of imported LNG now stands at approximately 213,000 tonnes, further strengthening the nation's energy resources.
Upon arrival, the incoming LNG shipments will be directed to the Port of Ain Sokhna, where a thorough regasification process awaits them. Once regasified, the LNG will be seamlessly integrated into the national gas network, ensuring a steady supply of gas for distribution among power stations and the industrial sector, proportionate to their respective requirements.
Notably, the Port of Ain Sokhna has also recently received a shipment of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) over the past weekend. This particular shipment consists of butane and propane, both produced in refineries. Currently, the Liberian-flagged ship carrying the LPG is being efficiently unloaded at the oil docks in the Ain Sokhna area.
To uphold an uninterrupted gas supply during the summer season, the Egyptian government has allocated an additional $1.18 billion in June.
