Head of food safety receives Australian agricultural attaché in Cairo to discuss joint cooperation

CAIRO - 27 June 2024: Chairman of the National Food Safety Authority Dr. Tariq Al-Houbi, received Donna Bennett, the Australian Agricultural Attaché, and Elizabeth Wright, Deputy Ambassador of Australia to Cairo, at the headquarters of the National Food Safety Authority.
 
The meeting discussed the prospects for joint cooperation between the National Food Safety Authority and the Australian side in the fields of inspection, control and analysis and risk assessment.
 
Prospects for cooperation between Egypt and Australia were also discussed in the areas of supporting the effectiveness of supervisory and regulatory processes with regard to food safety systems.
 
The meeting also tackled exchanging information and experiences, especially in the field of studies related to food safety systems, supporting training programs to develop the Authority’s human cadres, and promoting the development of cooperation between the competent food authorities in both countries.  
 
During the meeting, Al-Hobi reviewed the results of the stability study conducted by the Food Safety Authority for the shelf life of liver and frozen fish.
 
The Authority is also interested in studying the mechanism for issuing binding technical rules for new and innovative food products.
 
For her part, Mrs. Donna Bennett, the Australian Agricultural Attaché in Cairo, praised the meeting between her and the head of the National Food Safety Authority, and expressed her country’s readiness to cooperate with the Egyptian side and transfer its expertise in the field of food safety in a way that serves and develops the food safety system in Egypt.
