Central Bank of Egypt governor gives final speech of the AfDB annual meetings of 2024

Cairo – June 3, 2024: The Central Bank of Egypt’s governor, Hassan Abdallah, delivered the closing statement of the annual meetings of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group in 2024.

Abdallah, who is also Egypt’s governor at the AfDB, headed a high-level delegation of Egyptian officials at the meetings, including Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of International Cooperation, and Mr. Tarek El-Khouly, Deputy Governor of the CBE.

During the annual meetings, held between the 27th and the 31st of May under the slogan “Africa’s Transformation, the African Development Bank meetings covered a multitude of topics including current economic issues and the exchange of expertise and proposals to support development efforts in Africa.

The Egyptian delegation participated actively in the meeting sessions, which highlighted the most prominent issues and axes that were agreed upon among the governors representing 81 participating countries.

On the sidelines of the meetings, Mr. Hassan Abdullah held many meetings and discussions with the governors and representatives of the participating countries, which dealt with issues and topics of common interest that strengthen the mechanisms for advancing development work in the countries of the African continent, in line with the state’s orientation towards deepening Egypt’s pivotal role in Africa, as well as on strengthening Egypt’s position in regional and international institutions and forums.

During his opening statement at the start of the meetings, Abdallah praised the “significant collective potential and competitive advantages” of the African nations.

The CBE head added that together with the AfDB and leading regional and international organizations, Africa can “pursue a multifaceted approach that addresses key economic and developmental challenges towards attaining a better and more prosperous future for the continent”.
