CAIRO - 26 May 2024: The Egyptian government has announced plans to invest LE 8 billion to establish six strategic warehouses for medicines and medical supplies across the country to boost its healthcare infrastructure.
According to an unnamed government official familiar with the project, the construction operations are set to be completed within the next year. The official stated that the Egyptian government, represented by the Armed Forces Authority on behalf of the Strategic Warehouses Company, signed a contract last June with the Orascom Whites consortium to carry out the construction of these warehouses.
The strategic warehouses will be located in six different governorates: Cairo, Alexandria, Dakahlia, Qena, Minya, and Ismailia. They will be owned by the Strategic Warehousing Company, which is affiliated with the Egyptian Unified Purchasing Authority, the Sovereign Fund of Egypt, and the Armed Forces Land Projects Authority.
The government official emphasized that the construction work on the national medicine warehouse project is already underway and the facilities will be ready for use by next year. This initiative is expected to play a crucial role in strengthening Egypt's healthcare system and ensuring the availability of essential medical supplies nationwide.
