Cairo – May 21, 2024: The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has launched a new initiative named “Cyber Talents” to address the growing demand for cybersecurity professionals by preparing a new talent pool.
Minister Amr Talaat revealed the initiative during his opening address at the Egypt International Summit for Digital Transformation and Cybersecurity (EISDTC).
Talaat highlighted that the Cyber Talents initiative will annually qualify 1,000 undergraduates for immediate employment in the cybersecurity field upon graduation.
Practical courses tailored to industry requirements will be offered, bridging the gap between demand and supply for cybersecurity specialists.
The initiative will be implemented throughout the academic year through strategic partnerships and cooperation frameworks between governmental bodies, academia, and private sector companies. Practical study materials and hands-on training will be integrated and provided at university laboratories and training centers affiliated with the MCIT.
Talaat emphasized the significance of creating a secure digital environment and fostering a competitive digital economy.
He also underscored the increasing cyber threats and attacks, particularly with the adoption of digital systems, cloud computing, IoT, AI, and 5G networks.
Moreover, Talaat emphasized ongoing efforts to raise awareness about cybersecurity through workshops and specialized training across state institutions.
According to a MCIT statement, Egypt's commitment to cybersecurity was exemplified by its ranking of 23rd out of 182 countries in the Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI) and the establishment of the Egyptian Supreme Cybersecurity Council (ESCC).
Additionally, Talaat highlighted Egypt's initiatives such as EG-CERT and the Child Online Protection (COP) initiative, outlining the National Cybersecurity Strategy 2023-2027, focusing on securing ICT infrastructures, promoting cybersecurity awareness, and enhancing international cooperation.
The EISDTC, where the Cyber Talents initiative was announced, also addresses crucial topics such as digital transformation, cybersecurity, and the data center industry. It includes panel discussions, workshops, and bilateral meetings, showcasing technological solutions and fostering entrepreneurship and innovation.
