CAIRO – 2 May 2024: Minister of Finance, Mohamed Maait, has announced that Egypt's general treasury provides approximately LE 3 billion to support the salaries of workers in the governorates' funds and accounts during the fiscal year 2023/2024.

In the last quarter of the current fiscal year, LE 715.7 million has been allocated to pay the entitlements of employees within the funds and accounts, accounting for the recent increase, as stated by the Minister of Finance.

The Ministry of Finance is committed to closely monitoring the monthly salary payments of employees to ensure their well-being and uphold social stability. They address any requirements that arise from recent salary raises.

In February, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi announced a 50 percent increase in Egypt's minimum wage to LE 6,000, effective from the following month, to alleviate the financial burdens on citizens.

Furthermore, in April, the National Wages Council (NWC) in Egypt announced an increase in the minimum wage for private sector workers to LE 6,000, starting from May 2024. This decision was made to safeguard the interests of workers, considering recent internal and external economic developments, as emphasized by Minister of Planning, Hala El-Said.
