Egypt's annual inflation declines to 33.1% in March

CAIRO - 8 April 2024: Egypt's annual inflation rate declined to 33.1 percent during the month of March, compared to 36 percent during the month of February, according to data from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
 
The annual inflation rate for the entire state rose last February, to reach 36 percent, compared to 31.2 percent last January.
 
Census data indicated that the increase in the monthly inflation rate for the entire republic slowed down, rising by 1 percent for the month of March 2024, compared to 11 percent during the month of February 2024.
 
According to statistics, the general consumer price index for the entire republic reached 221.6 points for the month of March 2024.
 
The agency attributed the reasons to the decrease in the prices of grains and bread by 0.3 percent; in vegetables by 3.5 percent despite the increase in prices of meat and poultry, fish and seafood by 0.7 percent, and dairy, cheese and eggs by 1.6 percent.
 
Increase was also witnessed in the prices of: fruit by 0.8%; sugar and sugary foods by 1.1%; coffee, tea and cocoa by 1.3%; ready-made clothes by 1.1%; shoes by 1.9%; actual rent for the house by 0.8%; maintenance and repair of the house by 1.2%; electricity, gas and other fuel materials by 1.2%;  furniture, fixtures, carpets and other floor coverings 1.1%;  household appliances 1.6%; medical products, devices and equipment 2.6%; outpatient services 1.4%; hospital services 1.5%; vehicle purchases 2.4%; transportation services 1.5%; postal services 5.7%; organized tourist trips 6.2%; ready meals 3.4%; hotel services 2.9%; and personal care 1.5%.
